CREIGHTON UNIVERSITY
HEALTH SCIENCE CAMPUS - PHOENIX
Phoenix // Arizona

EXPANDING A CAMPUS
AT A
DISTANCE ACROSS DISTANCE
A Midwestern university seeks an expansion of its campus across country. Located in Omaha, NE since 1878, Creighton University has continued to seek excellence through a strong Jesuit education. Identifying an educational gap in the Phoenix area, the university engaged in the design of a new interdisciplinary campus just beyond downtown. Arriving at this moment took a strategic vision and master plan that included a study of both the existing Omaha and potential Phoenix campuses to position the university for prosperity.
A visioning session and user workshop set the foundation for the campus of the future, challenging current state while crafting the road map to success. Bridging geography through physical, operational, and technological solutions aided in the translation of community and culture. This strategic plan resulted in an interdisciplinary health science model, shifting pedagogy and curriculum while evolving community and culture. This plan not only invested in the Phoenix expansion but also positioned the Omaha campus to grow into the newly evolved model longterm.
An institutional blank slate can be mind-numbing while also transformative - it only works with guardrails. Challenging users to set aside “baggage” takes effort but when they feel the spark of opportunity it is enlightening.

Cultural progression drove the experiential design of the new campus - building upon the foundation of the institute while evolving and positioning for the future. Cura Personalis embodied this experience - crafting a destination that responded to person as a whole. Balancing mind, body, soul and heart - users interact intimately with the volumes of environment, intersections of program, and deliberate destinations.
