AN INVESTMENT IN EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

“See One, Do One, Teach One” has long been the foundation for health science education and training. Through the evolution of educational pedagogies, new methods of teaching have allowed learners to move towards a greater level of mastery of skills. This shift from competency to mastery is best achieved through repetition in a safe environment resulting in lower patient risk. Experiential learning methods allow for learners to step into an environment that is reflective of the real-world, creating a high fidelity experience for training.

With the reduction of clinical placement and recognizing a growing need for simulation in their curriculum, the University of Michigan embarked on a process to envision a robust simulation environment of the future. Balancing operational, curriculum, program and facilities, the University along with their trusted partners developed a future state plan that fulfills the nursing program and positions the school for great success.
