"Open Space for
Your Mind"
-Kaneko

KANEKO has fully embraced its mission to provide an “Open Space For Your Mind” through their guiding principles of collaboration, innovation, and uniqueness. Over the course of five years, I partnered with KANEKO to provide the art direction for four exhibits including the following PLAY opening.

Collaborating with diverse community partners that share a common mission and vision allows for meaningful stories to be told, and the PLAY exhibit is no exception. Its purpose was to inspire and characterize the five types of play, as defined by Stuart Brown, in a curated yet whimsical experience that encouraged interaction across all ages.

Each of the play types paralleled the life cycle, reinforcing the importance of play throughout our lives. Children to adults flocked to KANEKO over the life of the exhibit to experience the immersive, active, engaging and educational installation.

This partnership, process, and project has a special place in my career and in my heart. Until this exhibit, I was missing something. I had abandoned a piece of me that brought out my best work, the best me. I hadn’t recognized something was missing until this point,      but quickly discovered it was PLAY. One of those career “ah-ha” moments.
